Designated Safeguarding Lead: Mr M Colley (DSL | Deputy Headteacher | SENDCO

At Leigh St Peter’s CE Primary School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our Christian vision,“Let Your Light Shine” (Matthew 5:16), we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where every child is valued, protected and given the opportunity to flourish. We believe that children can only reach their full potential when they feel safe, secure and cared for, and safeguarding plays a vital role in enabling every child to let their light shine.

Our safeguarding practice is fully aligned with the requirements of Safeguarding and Child Protection & Early Help Policy 2026, which has been developed in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 and in partnership with the Local Authority and safeguarding agencies. We work closely with local services to ensure that our safeguarding, child protection and early help arrangements reflect current statutory guidance and best practice, enabling us to provide the right support for children and families at the earliest opportunity.

We promote a strong safeguarding culture based on the principle that“it could happen here.” This approach ensures that all concerns, no matter how small, are taken seriously and acted upon appropriately. Every adult in our school community understands that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff receive regular safeguarding training and are expected to remain vigilant, professionally curious and committed to protecting children from harm.

Through effective safeguarding, child protection and early help processes, we work to identify concerns early, support children and families, and ensure that every child feels safe, happy and ready to learn. By working together with parents, carers, governors, external agencies and the wider community, we strive to create an environment where children are empowered to grow in confidence, develop resilience and truly let their light shine.
