Personal Presentation, Uniform & Equipment

Wearing our full school uniform, including school shoes, each day helps children feel part of our school community and encourages belonging. On PE days, children should come to school in their PE kit, with a plain black jumper allowed; if a plain black jumper is not available, our school uniform jumper should be worn instead. Please ensure that no clothing with logos is worn on PE days. Uniform routines help children develop good habits, preparing them for high school and future employment where dress codes are often required. If your family faces any difficulties with uniform, our pastoral team is here to offer support and guidance, ensuring every child feels comfortable and included.

Main school uniform:

Nursery: Although Nursery uniform is optional, it is good practice to get the children into a routine and to start preparing them for life at Leigh St Peter’s CE Primary School.

If you decide to send your Nursery child in school uniform, please see Reception uniform.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Uniform Expectation:

  • Grey pinafore or skirt / or grey trousers (Required)
  • White Polo T-Shirt (Required)
  • Blue jumper or cardigan (Required) (with school logo) (Optional)
  • Plain black shoes (Required)
  • School Book Bag (No rucksacks are needed due to reduced space in school).
  • Children in Reception are allowed to wear black jogging bottoms or leggings instead of trousers or skirts/pinafores. This is to support children to access continuous outdoor play effectively.

Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 Uniform Expectation:

  • Grey pinafore/skirt or grey trousers (Required)
  • White Polo T-Shirt (Required)
  • Blue Jumper or cardigan (Required) (with school logo) (Optional)

Along with the agreed uniform expectations:

  • School Jumpers can have the school logo on them. T-shirts with logos are available from uniform suppliers, if parents wish their child to have one, but there is no expectation for this.
  • The school skirt and pinafore is an agreed grey skirt which is available in a range of local uniform shops.  In school, we also hold a range of second hand uniform in different sizes. If families require support with their child’s uniform, please contact the school Pastoral Team by making an appointment at the school office.
  • Sweat shirts or hoodies are not allowed to be worn as an outdoor coat.
  • NO jewellery is to be worn, except plain stud earrings.
  • Hair which is shoulder length or longer needs to be tied up. Hairstyles which are considered extreme in any way are NOT acceptable. For example, patterned shaving, ‘mullet’ cuts’ or unnatural or two-tone coloured hair. Shaved haircuts shorter than number 2 blade are not acceptable.
  • NO acrylic nails and DO NOT wear nail polish. On young children this damages the nail bed and can affect nail growth. Please keep children’s nails a short length.
  • As many pupils misplace items of their uniform we expect all families to ensure that names/labels are on all your children’s uniform items.
  • Make-up is NOT ACCEPTABLE and any pupils found to be wearing make-up will be expected to remove it.
