Personal Presentation, Uniform & Equipment
All pupils are expected to wear the correct school uniform and look smart and clean. The purpose of our school uniform is to ensure that our pupils look smart and so that pupils have practical dress for each day. We believe that wearing a school uniform provides pupils with a sense of belonging and an identity that they belong to our school community.
At Leigh St Peter’s CE Primary School, we believe that first impressions are important and for this reason we expect all of our pupils to wear the correct school uniform at all times. We aim to be clear on our expectations making sure that we consider safety and cost when setting the uniform expectations.
Main school uniform:
Nursery: Although Nursery uniform is optional, it is good practice to get the children into a routine and to start preparing them for life at Leigh St Peter’s CE Primary School. If you decide to send your Nursery child in Uniform, please see Reception uniform.
Reception:
- Tartan pinafore or tartan skirt / grey trousers
- White Polo T-Shirt
- Blue jumper or cardigan (with school logo)
- Plain black shoes
- School Book Bag (No rucksacks are needed due to reduced space in school).
Children in Reception are allowed to wear black jogging bottoms or leggings instead of trousers or skirts/pinafores. This is because their curriculum includes continuous outdoor play.
Year 1 and Year 2:
- Grey pinafore or skirt / or grey trousers
- White Polo T-Shirt
- Blue jumper or cardigan (with school logo)
- Plain black shoes.
- School Book Bag (No rucksacks are needed due to reduced space in school).
Year 3, 4, 5 and 6:

Along with the agreed uniform expectations, we also insist that:
- School Jumpers have the school logo on them. T-shirts with logos are available from uniform suppliers, if parents wish their child to have one, but there is no expectation for this.
- The school skirt and pinafore is an agreed tartan skirt which is available in a range of local uniform shops. In school, we also hold a range of second hand uniform in different sizes. If any families require support with their child’s uniform, please contact a member of the school Pastoral Team by making an appointment at the school office.
- Outdoor coats must not have any visible logos which are coloured, for example, white, red, green, orange or yellow. Sweat shirts or hoodies are NOT allowed to be worn as an outdoor coat.
- NO jewellery is to be worn, except plain stud earrings.
- Hair which is shoulder length or longer needs to be tied up. Hairstyles which are considered extreme in any way are NOT acceptable. For example, patterned shaving, ‘mullet’ cuts’ or unnatural or two-tone coloured hair. Shaved haircuts shorter than number 2 blade are not acceptable.
- NO acrylic nails and DO NOT wear nail polish. On young children this damages the nail bed and can affect nail growth. Please keep children’s nails a short length.
- As many pupils misplace items of their uniform we expect all families to ensure that names/labels are on all your children’s uniform items. We will not take responsibility for items of clothing that are misplaced or lost.
- Make-up is NOT ACCEPTABLE and any pupils found to be wearing make-up will be expected to remove it.
