Teddy Battersby, our school therapy dog, plays an important role in supporting the wellbeing and development of our children. Teddy provides a calm and comforting presence throughout the school day, helping pupils to feel safe, relaxed and ready to learn. Spending time with Teddy can reduce anxiety, boost confidence and support emotional regulation, particularly for children who may be experiencing worries or challenges. Teddy also encourages positive social interaction, helping children to develop their communication skills, empathy and sense of responsibility. In addition, he can be a fantastic motivator for reluctant readers, providing a non-judgemental audience that helps build fluency and self-esteem. Through his gentle and friendly nature, Teddy contributes to our nurturing environment, supporting our vision of helping every child flourish and let their light shine.
