Computing Lead: Mrs A Cudworth | Online Safety SLT Lead: Miss G Taylor

At Leigh St Peter’s CE Primary School, we are committed to helping children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to stay safe in an increasingly digital world. Technology offers many exciting opportunities for learning, creativity, communication and entertainment, but it is important that children understand how to use it safely, responsibly and respectfully.

Children may face a range of online risks, including cyberbullying, inappropriate content, online grooming, scams, misinformation, excessive screen time and sharing personal information with strangers. We work closely with pupils, parents and staff to help children recognise these risks and make safe choices whenever they are online.

We encourage all children to follow the SMART rules for staying safe online:

Safe – Keep personal information private.
Meeting – Never meet someone you have only spoken to online.
Accepting – Do not accept messages, files or friend requests from people you do not know.
Reliable – Remember that not everything online is true or trustworthy.
Tell – Tell a trusted adult if something online makes you feel worried, upset or uncomfortable.

Online safety is embedded throughout our Computing and PSHE curricula, where children learn about digital citizenship, respectful online behaviour, privacy, security and healthy online relationships. In addition, we hold dedicated Online Safety theme days, workshops and visits from specialist organisations to reinforce key messages and ensure learning remains relevant to the ever-changing digital landscape.

We recognise that educating children to stay safe online is a partnership between school and home. To support families, we share weekly Online Safety updates and guidance through our school newsletters, providing practical advice, current trends and information about emerging online risks. By working together, we can help every child become a safe, responsible and confident user of technology, enabling them to let their light shine both online and offline.

At Leigh St Peter’s CE Primary School we work in line with the support and resources provided by the NSPCC to ensure our children and families receive up to information on how to keep safe online:
